JUANES NOMINATED AS BEST INTERNATIONAL MALE ARTIST FOR THE ECHO AWARDS IN GERMANY

The Colombian singer/songwriter was nominated for Best International Male Artist of the year in the Pop/Rock category. The 12 annual ECHO Awards will be held in Berlin, Germany on March 12th and will be broadcast on RTL.

The ECHO Awards are based on votes by the recording academy in Germany and are considered the most prestigious. The other nominees in this category are Robbie Williams, James Blunt, Jack Johnson and Michael Buble.

In Germany the album "Mi Sangre" has sold more than 250,000 copies and the single "La Camisa Negra" more than 200,000 copies. Both the album and the single have occupied the number 1 spot on the charts.

Juanes is the first artist that by singing solely in Spanish has managed to reach record sales and chart positions in Germany in the past 10 years.

The album "Mi Sangre" has sold more than 2.1 million copies worldwide. According to Billboard Magazine Mi Sangre is among the top 10 in sales after a record 70 weeks since its launch.

Juanes will tour Germany for the second time on the 14th of March 2006 and will visit Manheim, Stuttgart, Munich, Trier, Freiburg, Frankfurt and Düsseldorf.

The 28th of January kicks off the start of the second leg of the USA tour with a show at the Atlantic Bank Arena in Sunrise, Florida. The second part of this tour will add 22 more concerts which brings the total to 54 concerts total in the USA for the MI SANGRE TOUR.

This week the single "La Camisa Negra" is Number 1 in France after remaining in the top five sales charts during the holiday season.

In his last 6 years as a solo artist, the Colombian rocker Juanes has sold more than 4.5 million albums and has received 12 Latin Grammy's, 6 Billboard Awards, 8 Latin MTV Awards and 7 Premios lo Nuestro Awards, positioning him as the Latin artist with the most international awards.

Er hat übrigens "La camisa negra" (wie könnte es auch anders sein?) und "Volverte a ver" live gesungen. Nicht beide Songs in voller Länge, sondern je halb halb. Nach dem ersten Refrain von LCA ist er zu VAV rübergesprungen!

Englisch ist keine Bedingung mehr für den Erfolg

Latino-Künstler wie Juanes bleiben verstärkt beim Spanischen - Ausnahme Shakira

Mexiko-Stadt - Ein Reporter in Mexiko-Stadt wollte kürzlich bei einer Pressekonferenz von Latino-Star Juanes wissen, warum er seiner Kollegin Jennifer Lopez eine Abfuhr erteilt habe. Lopez sei sehr nett, sagte Juanes daraufhin. Aber gemeinsam mit ihr auf Englisch zu singen, wie sie das vorgeschlagen hatte, sei einfach nicht sein Ding.

Juanes folgte nie dem Trend von Ende der 90er Jahre, demzufolge spanischsprachige Künstler englisch singen mussten, um auf dem wichtigen US-Markt Erfolg zu haben. Und er hat es offenbar auch nicht nötig. Nach Angaben seiner Plattenfirma hat Juanes von seinem jüngsten Album «Mi Sangre» in den USA mehr als 850.000 Exemplare verkauft. Weltweit verkaufte sich das Album zwei Millionen Mal. Deutliches Anzeichen dafür, dass der Star aus Kolumbien international gut ankommt, waren Einladungen zu zwei hochkarätigen - spanischsprachigen - Auftritten: bei der Verleihung des Friedensnobelpreises und bei der Auslosung der Fußball-WM-Gruppen im Dezember.

Zwei Faktoren haben offenbar zum Wachstum des spanischsprachigen Musikmarkts in den USA beigetragen. Hauptursache ist die Zunahme des hispanischen Bevölkerungsanteils. Derzeit leben mehr als 42 Millionen Latinos in den Vereinigten Staaten, sie stellen praktisch ein eigenes Land im Land dar. Manche Vertreter der Musikindustrie glauben auch ein verstärktes Interesse für Latin Music unter den Anglos auszumachen. Andere halten dies allerdings für Wunschdenken. Bei der Verleihung der Latin Grammy Awards in Los Angeles im November erklärte der einflussreiche Produzent Emilio Estefan, der englischsprachige Boom sei vorüber, der Trend unter lateinamerikanischen Künstlern gehe in Richtung spanischsprachige Musik.

Juanes ist nicht der einzige Latino-Musiker, der auf das so genannte Crossover verzichtet. Auch Künstler und Bands wie Alejandro Fernandez, Sin Bandera, Julieta Venegas, Los Temerarios und Los Tigres del Norte setzten von spanischsprachigen Alben jeweils mehrere hunderttausend Exemplare ab. Ein weiterer Künstler, der nur auf Spanisch singt, ist Shootingstar Daddy Yankee, der mit «La Gasolina» einen Hit landete. Der Puertoricaner ist «König des Reggaeton», einer eingängigen Musik aus der Karibik, die neben HipHop weitere Stile kombiniert.

«Die Rehabilitation der Sprache»

Eine Ausnahme stellt Juanes' Landsmännin Shakira dar. Sie brachte 2005 zwei Alben mit unterschiedlichen Titeln heraus: eines auf Spanisch, «Fijación Oral Vol. 1», und einige Monate später eines auf Englisch, «Oral Fixation Vol. 2». Sie schaffte es damit als erste Künstlerin, mit zwei verschiedenen Alben in zwei Sprachen in derselben Woche in den oberen Rängen der Charts vertreten zu sein. Shakira gewann drei Billboard Awards für den besten Latino-Song, die beste Latino-Pop-Platte und als beste Latino-Pop-Künstlerin des Jahres.

John Echevarria, Präsident von Universal Music Latin, zu deren Künstlern sowohl Juanes als auch Daddy Yankee gehören, sagt, man könne diese beiden nicht in einen Topf werfen. «Daddys Erfolg hat viel mehr mit diesem ewigen Latin-Hit im US-Mainstream zu tun. Es hat immer ein 'Lambada', einen Ritchie Valens gegeben.» Juanes gehe tiefer und sei stärker ernst zu nehmen. «Das ist die Rehabilitation der Sprache: Juanes hat gesagt 'Ich singe in Spanisch, weil ich das so will'», erklärt Echevarria.

Auch Rochelle Newman-Carrasco, Besitzerin der Marketingfirma Enlace Communications in Los Angeles, sagt, Reggaeton laufe vor allem deshalb so gut, weil die Songs «sehr tanzbar» seien. Da sei es egal, ob die Menschen die Texte verstünden. Ansonsten sei die Hauptzielgruppe für Latino-Künstler in den USA, die auf Spanisch singen, noch immer die hispanische Bevölkerungsgruppe. «Die Verkäufe an Anglos sind nur das Sahnehäubchen.»

Das wär's ja gewesen. Sein Akzent ist zwar echt süß, aber ich weiß nicht ob er auf Englisch gut 'rüberkommen würde.
