It used to happen like that a generation ago. But now with the [economic] crisis, people wait to be 30 or 33 to have a baby. We are a bunch of young fathers, like our fathers were at the time.

But what have you left behind? If you are more mature, that means you have left things behind.

I have less time to do things. I play less on the PlayStation! You look to help with the boy, do things with your partner and make more plans with your family. I must admit, before you think more about yourself. You are more of an egoist.

And now you’ve gone from walking around Manchester where no one recognised you to everyone knowing you and your partner. How do you cope with that?

It’s all about getting used to it, really. In the beginning it can be irritating because people are following you. But there’s no point in getting cross because it is part of the life I have chosen. Fans are there and you just have to stay and smile while they take pictures and videos. People at the moment are going through a bad time and the last thing they need is for people like footballers to show themselves to be bad tempered and unapproachable.

You and Shakira have two completely separate and demanding careers. How do you work it together?

How do an architect and a doctor do it? We are in two professions that are completely different and it would seem to some that there is a great aura about them, but at the end of the day it’s all about sharing everything with the person you love – ultimately it’s what couples all over the world do. I didn’t play that well, this song didn’t work completely ... we moan and rejoice like everybody else.

You wrote your own book. Have you ever thought about writing the lyrics of a Shakira song?

I hadn’t thought about it. I’m not sure I would be good about it. Maybe we will try!

Bei taff kam vorgestern war das glaube ich, ein kurz bericht über Gerard der wurde irgendwie zum sexiest men gewählt,kann aber grad nichts darüber finden.

War anscheinend nach dem Geburtstag....Shakira sieht umwerfend aus

Pique sieht sehr ungewohnt aus mit so kurzen Haaren und ohne Bart das macht ihn so extrem jung aber nach längerem Betrachten gefällt er mir so doch auch ganz gut aber mit Vollbart und viel Haaren ist er schon riiiichtig hot
