Yahoo! Music Presents a Surprise Times Square Performance from Shakira in Celebration of the New Mini-Pop Ad Campaign Featuring the Latin Sensation

SANTA MONICA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 21, 2005--Yahoo! Music, the Internet's number one site for music content, hosted a surprise live performance from Latin superstar, Shakira, under The Reuters Sign in Times Square on Monday night. The performance kicked off the new mini-Pop ad campaign for Yahoo! Music Unlimited, featuring Shakira and supporting the release of her new album, "Oral Fixation, vol. 2," available on November 29th.

Written and produced by Shakira, Oral Fixation, vol. 2 finds Shakira at an all time creative high. Over the last two years, Shakira penned over sixty new songs; ten critically acclaimed Spanish songs comprise on Fijacion Oral, vol. 1 and a batch of new English songs now make up Oral Fixation, vol. 2. The album also contains two English renditions of "Dia Especial" and "Make Me Believe" from Fijacion Oral, vol. 1 and a new song "Illegal" featuring the legendary Carlos Santana.

The Yahoo! Music "This is Huge" Mini-Pop campaign launched this year to promote its new music subscription service Yahoo! Music Unlimited (YMU), where users can play music from a catalog of more than one million songs, transfer tracks to portable devices, and enjoy the unique ability to share and discover music with other subscribers through Yahoo! Messenger. The first television ads supporting the campaign, featured artists such as Green Day and Missy Elliott. The new Shakira Mini-Pop ad, features her hit single, "Don't Bother," which premiered on The Reuters Sign immediately following her Times Square performance.

Mini-Pop stars are minutely drawn detailed pixilated depictions of well-known musicians, including Green Day, Missy Elliot and now Shakira. All the ads and marketing efforts feature the line "Over A Million Songs - This is Huge," establishing Yahoo! Music Unlimited as the leading subscription service with an extensive music library.

Hey Guys! I just got back from Times Square a little while ago!

Alex had told us what it was ahead of time so we were pretty much expecting a performance even though shakira.com said we would be getting a "souvenir"

I met up with the usual suspects: Alex(Ajaris), Corey(BlueSol), Nicole(Alia), Diego(Fearlesswhore) and Carlos(from univision forums) and we waited at Times Square where the stage was set up a block away from the MTV studios above the street... Then it started raining and it didn't stop raining the whole time, but Shaki still came out at 7 something PM. Due to the rain we later found out from Brendan the sound wasn't so good, but we were close enough so we heard the performance fine, except it would have kicked ass if it would have been banging loud :: anyways she came out and sang "Don't bother", then she said something to the crowd which we couldn't hear, and then sang another song which I didn't recognize but the guys said it was "Hey You", after that she took off her leather jacket, revealing a purple tee, and tied it in a knot and we all knew what was coming....... "La Tortura!"     she shook her ass off in the rain for all of us that were getting drenched below... after that it was over... we think they might have shortened the performance since the rain wasn't letting up.... so yeah it was short and sweet... but freaking great cause come on IT'S SHAKIRA LIVE!!! http://shakiraforum.de/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/happy.gif

So after it's over and she's coming down the makeshift elevator thing Alex was like let's catch her when she comes down, and he led the way and we ran accross the street and around, and YES we caught her coming down and she was THISCLOSE but I was fumbling with my cam so I didn't get a good shot... BUT then she walked over to us on her way into the building and she hugged us ( us being Corey, Carlos and I) and it was like a REAL HUG, she embraced us with open arms and kissed our cheeks!!! it was freaking unreal, when she was so close to me I was so nervous the only pic I took was of her face as she was about to hug and kiss me    so I have a super blurry pic of her face as she was approaching my face, it was freaking awesome! she stopped there and hugged fans and was all super nice as always! Then she went into the building and wow I could have died, I was super excited and jumping with Corey  :lol:  I was like omg she f-ing hugged us and kissed us like in a BIG way :lmao:Anyways that was followed by us walking over to the band members who were making their way down as well, we took pics with Tim and Brendan (they are sooo nice), and I have blurry ones of Adam and Albert...

Ill post pics in a little bit, Im so excited!!!!

Ja... , er wurde in MTV-Germany sogar live! übertragen; in einer mtv-typischen "Geheimaktion"... Habs nämlich auch erst irgendwann spätnachmittag oder in der Nacht - nach Rückkehr von meiner Party - erfahren, entweder im Videotext entdeckt oder in einer Vorankündigung gesehen...(weiß nicht mehr, wann und wie...)

Da würde sich aber ein neuer Thread anbieten, den ich jetzt mit einigen Infos + Impressions eröffnen werde...
